Film is often used to raise awareness about injustice, build empathy, and foster understanding of diverse perspectives. It can also perpetuate stereotypes or political propaganda. Students will complete a viewing guide in which they identify the key message of the film they watch while considering the evolving fight for equal rights in America through the lens of the 14th amendment.

Review committee presentation expectations (Each student should give a 5-10 minute presentation in which they share their nomination form as well as a brief video about their organization or the issue that it addresses. When you are not presenting, you should record the name of each student in your group, the nonprofit they nominated, and details about each organization that impressed you in your notebook). Tuesday, August 28th - Review interview schedule. Complete Interview Day prep sheet, capturing the mission/purpose of the organizations you are interviewing with, and preparing three follow up questions for each interview session.
Wednesday, August 29th - Introduce PSL Survival Guide, and participate in interview practice. Revise resumes as needed.
Thursday, August 30th - Participate in conversations on Empathy for Human Good and review expectations for professional communication.

Honors PSL: Read and discuss "Invictus." Introduce The Other Wes Moore and journal assignment, which is due on Friday, September 8th.
Traditional PSL: Read “Service-Learning: A Balanced Approach to Experiential Education” by Andrew Furco, take active reading notes, and complete 5-3-1 graphic organizer.
Homework: All PSL forms (parent involvement form, transportation waiver, liability waiver, and book form) due on Friday, August 25th. Bring notebook to class every day.

Wednesday, August 23rd - Review list of organizations that will be interviewing students, research each organization on the PSL partner agency page, select your top 5, and be prepared to share your list by tomorrow. If time remains, highlight PSL student-run organizations.
Thursday, August 24th - Review resume assignment slide presentation, rubric, and exemplar. Begin working on resume in class.
Homework: Share your resume with [email protected] and [email protected] by the end of your PSL class on Friday, August 25th. Note...your completed resume represents a summative exam grade for the 1st quarter.
Friday, August 25th - Evaluate sample resumes using rubric. Use remaining time as a resume work day. Conference individually with Mr. Soeder or Mrs. Trentanelli as needed.
