PIRATE POWER PACK PROGRAM
SPONSORED BY TELERADIOLOGY CONSULTANTS and THE BUSER FAMILY FOUNDATION

The Pirate Power Pack program sponsored by Teleradiology Consultants and The Buser Family Foundation and supported by The Perry Center provides a weekend supply of nutritious food for students who attend Perry Local Schools who may experience food insecurity. Each weekend food bag contains enough food for two breakfasts, two lunches, three dinners, and one snack.

Though the program is intended to help those children whose families find it difficult to have enough food for the entire month, all children are eligible for this program.  Families will be able to opt-in and opt-out of the program at any time during the school year.

The program is run by volunteers from The Perry Center and Perry Service Learning program who gather donations, pack food bags weekly, and complete the day-to-day tasks that keep the program running. Additional financial support has provided by grants from GenerationOn, ServeOhio, and the United Way of Lake County and generous donations from The Buser Family Foundation and The Perry United Methodist Church.

It costs approximately $225 to sponsor one child for the entire school year.  Community members and groups are also invited to sponsor a food drive for the Pirate Power Pack program, and we all welcome financial donations.  Please email Allison Trentanelli for details.

Frequently asked questions

What does each Pirate Power Pack include?
Each Pirate Power Pack includes 3 dinners, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 1 snack.

When will Pirate Power Packs be delivered?
Pirate Power Packs will be delivered on the last day of school before a weekend or extended break.

How does the program maintain client confidentiality?
Pirate Power Pack volunteers simply pack grocery bags with food and do not know the names of the students who participate in the program.  The bags are then placed in boxes for delivery to PES teachers.  PES teachers discreetly place the bags in student backpacks before the weekend.  The bags are put directly into lockers at PMS so students do not have to worry about picking them up. Students at PHS may pick up the bags from their guidance counselors when convenient.

How much does it cost to provide one student with meals for one weekend?
Each Pirate Power Pack contains approximately $7 worth of food to assist students who experience food insecurity over the weekend.
