Shantytown: Important Information & Application
Time and date
The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24th, 2017 and end at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25th. Participants are expected to attend scheduled classes on Monday.
Location
The event will take place on the grassy area outside the PSL Center for Civic Engagement (north side of Manchester West). This location is publicly visible yet safe and near shelter if necessary. Students will have access to restrooms in Manchester West
Chaperones/Security
There will be at least two adult chaperons participating in all aspects of the experience. In the event you need to contact your son or daughter during the event you may call Mr. Soeder at 440-840-5066. The Perry Police have been informed of this event and will drive by several times to maintain a presence. First aid supplies will be available.
Rules
1. No visitors. Students and other visitors who show up and are not part of the event will be asked to leave immediately.
2. No one is permitted to leave the group or designated Shantytown area. Girls sleeping quarters will be in the area west of the PSL entrance. Boys sleeping quarters will be in the area east of the PSL entrance. There will be a common area where we can gather. You will be given instructions that evening about boundaries in the sleeping areas.
3. All Perry High School handbook rules apply to this experience.
4. Parents will be phoned and asked to pick up any student who does follow these rules.

Films
Students will be viewing one of the following films dealing with homeless veterans and the film will be followed up with a discussion led by the instructors.: When I Came Home: An Iraq Veteran's Struggle for Survival After Returning From The War
Application process
We can only accept 50 participants for this experience. For consideration, students must download the permission slip and complete the online application below. All signed permission slips and participation fees must be turned in before the stated deadline.

Thank you for your willingness to participate in this event and help raise awareness about the issues of poverty and homelessness in our community. Don't forget to submit a hard copy of your signed permission form and your $20 registration fee to Mr. Soeder or Mrs. Trentanelli's mailbox in the PHS main office.
