Service times: Tuesdays/Thursdays during your scheduled PSL block plus additional hours outside the traditional school day Service requirement: 2 hours per week Agency description: The PSL Student Philanthropy Program was founded in 2012 to educate and engage students in the practice of philanthropy. Through a partnership with Magnified Giving, the PSL Student Philanthropy Program provides students with $1,500 to award to a Northeast Ohio non-profit. The goal of the philanthropy program is to invite students to make educated, thoughtful and conscience decisions about local non-profits using grant applications, site visits and various other resources. Since 2013, the program has awarded $2,000 per year to local nonprofits. Job description: The student coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program which include: establishing a timeline, lining up philanthropists to speak to the PSL classes, completing progress reports for Magnified Giving, organizing student groups, communicating with local non-profits, sending out requests for proposals, collecting completed grant applications, creating promotional videos for the three finalists, and coordinating an awards ceremony at the end of the year. Ideally the student director will spend two hours inside the building completing work that needs to be done and two hours visiting nominated nonprofits in order to learn more about them. One of the most important qualities of these student directors is that they are able to conduct themselves professionally amongst the agencies and businesses that we come into contact with. Be prepared to speak with over 30 non-profits and 80 businesses in a way that upholds the reputation of Perry students and their respect in the community. |
