Lesson 5: Committee Conference Calls
The Philanthropy unit began with each student in the PSL program nominating one non-profit organization to be eligible to receive up to $1,000 in grant money that will be awarded at the end of school year. The student philanthropy program is made possible through the generosity of Magnified Giving as well as individual and corporate donors to the PSL student philanthropy program.
Today, students will meet in committees to conduct conference calls with representatives from each non-profit organization that they selected to advance to this round. These interviews afford students the opportunity to learn about assets in our community. Moreover, the interviews provide students with valuable information that will help them make an informed decision about where to invest the grant money available to us. |

Conference Call Guidelines
Directions: One person from your group should conduct the conference call using the suggested script below. All of the other group members are responsible for capturing information shared by the agency representatives on the Conference Call comparison chart provided in class. In the interest of parity, each organization will be asked the same three questions.
Hello, is ___________________________________ available?
My name is ________________________________ and I am a part of the Perry Service Learning Program at Perry High School.
This year, we have the opportunity to award a $1000 grant to a deserving non-profit. Your organization is one of the non-profits we are considering. Can you answer a few questions for my classmates and I?
First, why is your organization critical to our community?
After they finish answering the question: Thanks. That helps us better understand what your organization does for our community.
Next, can you share a story of a person who has benefitted from your organization’s services?
After they finish answering the question: Our final question is what would your organization do with the $1,000 if we awarded the grant money to you?
After they finish answering the question: Thanks for sharing that information as well. We really appreciate you answering our questions today, and apologize that we don’t have more time to continue our conversation. Someone from our organization will be in touch with you soon regarding your status.
