Tuesday, December 14th - Tuesday, December 21st
The Midterm Conference allows us to reflect on the meaning and purpose of our service experiences, and to articulate how our actions affect our community.
As part of this process, we will consider the people and experiences that characterize our service, and engage with the reflections of others to better understand our individual and collective responsibilities. |
Students should prepare answers for all four (4) questions

Midterm Conference Questions
1. Review Hart's Ladder of Youth Participation. Explain the progression of youth and adult actions at your service site during the first semester, set a goal for youth initiated activities during the second semester, and develop an action plan for achieving that goal. Remember that goal you develop must be specific, measurable, attainable, reasonable, and time bound. |
2. Consider Chimamanda Adichie’s TED Talk “The danger of a single story.” Explain what the author means by a single story. What single story exists about the people that you serve? How do you transcend their single story? How has your perspective on the people you serve evolved since you started your volunteer experience? In what ways do the people you serve break the stereotypes or assumptions that others make about them? |
|
3. In light of Adam Davis’ article titled “What We Don’t Talk About When We Don’t Talk About Service” evaluate the strengths and limitations of your actions as a volunteer. |
4. Review Rachel Naomi Remen’s article “In the Service of Life” and put it in the context of your service experiences. Using evidence from the article, evaluate whether you are helping or serving at your service site. What have you learned about yourself through your service experiences? How are you connected to the people you serve? |
