The fight against heroine
Many in our community are struggling with the devastation caused by the heroin epidemic gripping our
county and our state.
This unit challenges us to become community activists. As we collectively fight this silent and often stigmatizing crisis, we seek to provide resources - and hope - to those ravaged by its effects.
The fight against hunger
The number of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch in Perry rose dramatically over the last 10 years. Poor nutrition often results in poor academic performance.
This unit challenges students to create a proposal that will benefit elementary school children who may experience food insecurity over the weekend.
The learning targets for this unit are:
- Engage in activities that meet community needs.
- Reflect on your service experiences and evaluate the community need, your actions, your impacts, what worked and did not work, and the ways in which your work contributes to the common good.
- Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions with diverse partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.
