Cincinnati Urban Plunge Sign Up Information
On September 27th, seven students from the Perry Service Learning program will embark on a two day service trip to Cincinnati. Cincinnati consistently ranks among the poorest big cities in the United States. This plunge will afford students the opportunity to see urban poverty first hand and provide several opportunities to serve some of Cincinnati’s neediest residents.
By the end of the 2 day experience, each student will accumulate 10 service hours by volunteering at the St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen, The Society of St. Vincent De Paul, The Drop Inn Center Homeless Shelter, and Winton Place Youth Center. Moreover, students will attend the 19th Annual Mayerson Service Learning Workshop hosted at the University of Cincinnati. This workshop attracts students and teachers from service learning programs from over 50 Ohio high schools and enables them to share best practices.
We will be staying at the Society of St. Vincent De Paul located in the West End of Cincinnati.
The third floor of this facility is designed to accommodate high school service groups. There are bathrooms/showers on the third floor. Although there are bunk beds with mattresses, there are no linens so students should bring a sleeping bag and pillow. Students should also pack one duffel bag with clothes, and toiletries. Students will need business casual clothes for the workshop and comfortable clothes to volunteer in. Be sure to have at least one pair of closed toe shoes.
There is a $25 fee to participate in this plunge. Students will also need spending money for meals. We will return to Perry around 11 p.m. on September 28th.
If you are interested in being a part of this experience, please let Mr. Soeder or Mrs. Trentanelli know by completing the form below no later than Friday, September 29th.
