Picture the scene. Next year's PSL students anxiously sit in the classroom while the teachers call them one by one into the hallway to inform them of their volunteer placement. Some of the students are ecstatic having just learned that they received their first choice. Others are less than thrilled because they received their 8th choice and/or were not placed with their best friend. Amidst all of this excitement and confusion, the PSL teachers return to the room and distribute "Dear Replacement" letters.
These letters are an instrumental part of the preparation process by offering students a glimpse into their service experience. Moreover, the "Dear Replacement" letter also represents one final opportunity for you to process your volunteer experience and learn from it. Use this as an opportunity to give advice, share stories, and provide tips for success. By addressing the points below, you will be passing on words of wisdom to a future PSL student and constructing meaning from own your experiences.
