Week Thirty Seven
All PSL students are expected to volunteer their required hours this week and submit their timesheet on Friday, May 12th.
Monday, May 8th: Submit time sheet in x2vol for week ending May 5th. Complete Magnified Giving Survey. Complete PSL end-of-course survey. Celebrate PSL class of 2017 accomplishments. Review for final exam. Homework: Eat at Chipotle on Mentor Avenue tonight between 4-8 pm. Mention PSL when you order and 50% of the proceeds go to the philanthropy program.
Wednesday, May 10th: Students who are missing their Global Youth Service Day time sheet (50% of your final exam grade) should complete it before leaving today. Final exam for blocks 3/4 and 6. Dear Replacement letter and Childhood Dreams lecture for block 2. Homework: All blocks complete Dear Replacement letter and submit to PSL classroom or Mr. Soeder/Mrs. Trentanelli's mailbox in the PHS office. Monday, May 1st: Complete the following Google slides: description of the free/inexpensive special item and accompanying rationale; original recipe for no cook snack or meal that can be made from menu items including a nutritional analysis of the recipe striving for foods that are low in sodium, sugar, and fat while containing whole grain or lean protein; summary of local resources (food pantries, soup kitchens, clothing rooms, etc.) that can be accessed during service interruptions (holidays, summer, etc.). The resources found on PSL's childhood hunger lesson may be helpful.
Homework: Presentations due Wednesday, May 3rd. Presentation should include: completed Google slides, backpack with food, special item, recipe, & resource card; and sample recipe for judges and/or class.

Introduce Perry weekend food program contest and resources. Select groups, assign sample student, and begin brainstorming proposal ideas. Homework: Purchase food items for less than $6 that can be used to create 3 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, and 1 snack for your assigned student.

Examine drug prevention policy in the PHS Handbook and evaluate its successes, failures, and possible need for reform.

Participate in Art as Argument using the OPTIC analysis strategy as a whole class and in small groups. Homework: Read through page 44 of Enrique's Journey.
Quiz Make Up/Retake - Students who were unable to take the collaborative reading/writing quiz (focused on the prologue of Enrique's Journey) on Friday -OR- students who were not satisfied with the grade he/she earned should complete the Make Up Quiz.
Wednesday, January 25th - Review Part One of Enrique's Journey, and read "A Twist" (pages 190-196). Review illegal immigration trends and Introduce immigration topics/articles in preparation for small group seminars next week. Read articles about impact of immigrants on local economy and prepare 2 questions for Mr. Gilson by Friday.
