Positions available: 2
Service times: Tuesdays from 9am-12noon and Fridays from 1pm-4pm
Service requirement: 2 hours per week
Agency description: Thriving Threads is Perry's clothing room, serving people who live, work, or worship in our community as well as alumni of the Perry Local Schools. The clothing room was started in 1999 by the Perry Women’s League as a place where people could go and find clothing at no charge to them. Now, under the leadership of the Perry Service Learning program, our mission remains the same: to provide everyone who walks through the door with clothes that make them feel comfortable and confident so that they can thrive in school, at work, and in the community.
Job description: Volunteers will be responsible for securing donations, sorting donations, creating displays, keeping the clothing room organized, assisting clients, and promoting the clothing room in the community. Volunteers will also oversee The Captain's Closet. The Captain's Closet is a program that pairs elementary school students who are economically disadvantaged with Perry Service Learning volunteers for a shopping experience at Thriving Threads. Prior to shopping, volunteers will contact parents to find out the specific needs of each child. Then volunteers will walk to the elementary school, escort the child to Thriving Threads, and enjoy a shopping spree during off hours. Students will take one bag of clothing home the day of their shopping experience. Any additional bags will be delivered to the student's home.
