Service times: 3:00-5:00 p.m., Mon.-Fri. Service requirement: 2 hours per week Agency description: The Salvation Army services a number of activities for under-privileged children. The Learning Zone provides homework and tutoring for those in grades 1-8. Snacks are provided on a daily basis. The children are given homework help, tutoring for special needs, help with reports, career exploration opportunities, and special projects. Activities are developed for character building and to develop team building skills.Purpose: Our program has been developed to meet the needs of these children that cannot afford typical, costly Learning Centers. Most of these children have serious learning disabilities and lack social skills needed to live profitable lives in society as they get older. Most of our children when they came to us have been under grade level and many have failed the grades they were in, one of the children repeated the 4th grade 3 times and we are their only hope.
