Service times: 9:20am - 10:50am Service requirement: 2 hours per week Agency description: The PSL Green Team will work with existing organizations within the Perry Local Schools to make our campus and community more environmentally friendly. Participants will also initiate new programs designed to raise awareness about environmental issues and lead a school and community effort to go green. In particular, students will team up with the Abitibi Consolidated Recycling program, the Environmental Action Team, and the Environmental Science classes. Green Team volunteers will work with students from Perry High School's PAVE Program or Perry Middle School Cross Categorical Classroom to implement an aluminum can recycling program in the Perry Schools and community. Moreover, Green Team members will also attempt to increase paper recycling efforts in the community by working with the Perry Public Library, Perry Fire Department, and other organization to encourage the recycling of paper and cardboard. Job description: The PSL Green Team is responsible for recycling efforts in the Perry Local School District. The Green Team is responsible for strategically placing recycling containers throughout the Perry Local School district and the Perry community. The Green Team is also responsible for collecting and sorting recyclables two times per week and taking aluminum to the recycling center in Perry at least once per month. The Green Team works closely with the custodial staff to fulfill these responsibilities. Green Team members are also expected to measure and track recycling efforts using the tools provided by PepsiCo Recycling. Green Team members are also expected to take advantage of incentives offered by PepsiCo in order to implement recycling programs. Green Team members are expected to investigate recycling habits of students and community members and develop plans to boost recycling outcomes compared to previous years. The Green Team should also take a leadership role in the Environmental Action Club, recruiting new volunteers and scheduling events designed to raise awareness about recycling throughout the school and community. Members of the Green Team are also required to help organize and participate in Community Green Day on the fourth Saturday in April |
