Lesson 7: Hate Crimes Against the Homeless

According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, there were over 1,000 violent attacks against the homeless between 1999 and 2010 that resulted in over 300 deaths. In this lesson, students will view an ABC News Special titled "What Would You Do?" focused on attacks against the homeless and discuss why these events occur.
Next, students will listen to an NPR radio broadcast and view a report from the National Coaltion for the Homeless concerning violence against the homelessin America in an effort to determine the causes of these acts of oppression and understand how people and organizations are responding to these crimes. |
