Lesson 3: Causes of Oppression Against the Poor & Homeless
The lesson begins by asking students to distinguish characteristics of episodic and chronic homelessness. Next, students examine several case studies of people who are homeless and determine if the person is an example of episodic or chronic homelessness. Following a lecture onthe human capital theory, culture of poverty theory, and institutional discrimination theory, students will determine which theory or theories best explain the cause of homelessness for one of the individuals featured in the case studies.
