Service can change lives because it presents us with new perspectives on the world around us.
How has using your senses during service allowed you to more fully understand and engage with the world around us?
Service can change lives because it provides opportunities to develop empathy for others.
How have you learned to connect with others because of your service experiences?
Service can change lives because it allows us to become leaders.
How have you demonstrated that you are a justice-oriented citizen?

How does service change lives?
In a formal reflection , each student will use his/her service experiences, as well as the wisdom of others, to answer the essential question, "How does service change lives?" In addition to completing the reflection, students are requried to complete Activity One to help develop a critical perspective, and Activity Two, which offers the opportunity for peer evaluation and self reflection.
Your reflection MUST:
- Use one or more stories from your service experiences to respond to the question, "How does service change lives?"
- Use a minimum of three provided resources to answer the question, "How does service change lives?"
- Follow acceptable writing/MLA conventions (including Works Cited references).
Your reflection SHOULD:
- Use your selected resources to help illustrate how service altered your perspective, cultivated empathy, or led to leadership opportunities.
- Be written using first person language because they address your personal experiences.
- Acknowledge multiple viewpoints (i.e. anticipate/respond to objections to your reflection)
Your reflection CAN:
- Reference texts, speakers, activities, trips/plunges, and other PSL-related opportunities to answer the question, "How does service change lives?"
- Use one or more stories from your service experiences to respond to the question, "How does service change lives?"
