Service times: Monday-Friday (afternoons and evenings) Service requirement: 2 hours per week. Agency description: Hospice is a specialized, holistic, team approach to providing comfort-oriented care for people who are terminally ill, their families, and those grieving the loss of a loved one. In celebrating the individual worth of each life, Hospice strives to relieve suffering, enhance comfort, promote quality of life, foster choice in end-of-life care, and support effective grieving. Job description: Teen volunteers work under the direction of the Coordinator of Teen Volunteers and in collaboration with the hospice team. Teens provide support and companionship to our residents, families, and friends. Teen volunteers may offer a friendly visit, plan and initiate activities for visiting children, cook and bake, play bingo or games, assist staff in various roles including office support, and much more. Typical tasks include baking for patients, making inspirational cards, and/or delivering flowers to patients. Teens are able to visit patients and offter them company. Many patients love nothing more than to have the company of a volunteer. Interested students should complete the volunteer application available online and must attend the volunteer training session in September. |
